Ah YouTube… one of the great time wasters of our time! When you’re using YouTube videos for your business, the last thing you want is for your viewers to get distracted after watching your video and click over to watching something unrelated to you. Instead, you want to keep them on your website and reduce the likelihood of clicking away.
To do this, there are two things you should do:
1) First, embed the YouTube video in your website, instead of linking to the video on YouTube. If your customer leaves your website to watch a video, this increases the likelihood that they won’t come back to your website and complete whatever it was you wanted them to do (ie. sign-up for your mailing list, buy something from your store, etc.)
2) Turn off the “related videos” that appear at the end of your video when you embed it in your site.
This is what you don’t want at the end of your videos:
This is what you do want – your company branding, call to action, etc. (BTW – this needs to be part of your video)
Here’s How to Do It
To fix this, login to YouTube and go to your Dashboard. Select the video in question.
Click on Share, click on Embed, then uncheck the box next to Show suggested videos…. Then choose the embed code and paste into your website (or send to your web developer if you don’t know how).
