Elizabeth Van Buren makes quality essential oils for the retail and wholesale market. They came to us with a functional BigCommerce store that was lacking in aesthetic appeal and that didn't reflect the quality of the brand. They wanted a website that would appeal to some of the bigger wholesale accounts they desired - and wanted additional content features like a blog, ability to display videos, integration with MailChimp, online user guides, and more.
EVB was heavily invested in BigCommerce and it does handle Wholesale better than a lot of e-commerce platforms. So changing wasn't really an option. However, while BigCommerce has some facility for managing static pages and blogs, it really lacks the flexibility of something like WordPress. Additionally, BigCommerce would have had to have much of the special content updated from within the coded page templates. Not an ideal situation for a non-coding staff.
So, a multi-platform approach was decided on. The shopping piece would stay in BigCommerce and everything else in WordPress. The challenge was making the look of the two match and make it as seamless as possible so it's not obvious to the end user that they are jumping back and forth between two platforms. That can be really off-putting, which is why I don't normally recommend this approach. However, we were able to pull it off with about a 95% match between the two.
